Lehenga or sharara - which should I wear to which wedding function?

A lehenga suits the main ceremony and the most formal functions; the volume of the skirt reads as the highest register. A sharara set, flared trousers rather than a skirt - suits mehendi, sangeet and haldi, where you'll be sitting on the floor and moving. Shararas are also easier for outdoor and destination functions. How far in advance should I order a wedding lehenga?

At least six to eight weeks. Luxuries of Kashmir pieces are made to order with a 2–3 week production time, and shipping sits on top of that. Building in buffers matters more for wedding wear than anything else, because alterations on hand-embroidered garments take time and can't always be rushed. For a full trousseau across several functions, start three months out.

What should I wear to a destination wedding rather than a local one?

Avoid heavy lehengas -wind, sand and heat make them impractical, and they need steaming on arrival. Sharara sets and co-ords handle movement better and pack flatter. Plan four to five outfits for a three-day wedding: mehendi or haldi, sangeet, ceremony, reception, and one lighter traditional piece. Co-ord sets help here, since halves can be recombined into different looks.
