DESCRIPTION
Sabzaar, a green expanse, is named for the meadow its print recalls. The botanical motif of broad leaves rising into slender stems topped with mauve, spiked blooms was hand-carved into a wooden block, dipped in colour and calico-printed in orderly rows across the Chanderi silk. The fabric was then cut into a straight, easy kurta whose colour deepens gradually from sunlit lime to rich olive. The neckline is the focal point. One side of the V is lined with fine olive pintucks, while the other carries a single embroidered spray of buds and leaves in brown, olive and ivory thread, added by hand after printing and raised against the printed ground. Striped cuffs finish the three-quarter sleeves, a detail that returns at the ends of the dupatta. Straight pants in deep olive ground the look, and the organza dupatta falls sheer and weightless with faint flower motifs and tasselled ends.
